Overview
Sandon Point is a stellar right-hand pointbreak on the east coast, breaking over uneven reef and sometimes called The Jetty. It is a testing, teasing ride with a high risk-to-reward ratio: small-swell fun walls are quickly replaced by muscled-up lines that throw thick lips over the ledge, turning take-offs into a leap into the unknown.
When It Works
The point draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with east (E) swell the best match. It is a consistent setup that works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 5.5 m / 18 ft. More east in the swell opens up the barrels, while a big south swell rumbles down the line with awesome power.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Low tide is when the barrels really start to open.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. Locals dominate the lineup and have little patience for anyone out of their depth or out of order, and it is always crowded when it works. Getting caught inside is almost guaranteed and genuinely dangerous, surfers have drowned here, so treat the inside with real respect.
Access
There are restrooms and showers on hand, and parking runs from a car park with free parking to paid parking and roadside spaces.
