Shioirigawakakou is a mellow beachbreak at the Shioirigawa rivermouth, just past the Onga River. It's a long, shallow sand beach that peels both left and right, and while the waves are on the weaker side, they break cleanly even when the swell is small.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from west through north to northeast (W-N-NE), with northwest the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so even modest swells are enough to get it going, and the shallow beach helps it break cleanly on the small days. Expect moderately consistent conditions across the season.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast offshore wind to clean it up. The beach works through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet, so there's plenty of room to find your own peak.
Access
A green cycle track runs alongside, opening up kilometres of empty beachbreak to explore. There are restrooms on hand, and parking is easy with a car park, paid options, and roadside spots to choose from.
