Sigatoka is a river mouth break inside the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park, where five kilometres (3 mi) of sand beachbreaks run through striking scenery. The standout is the Sigatoka Rivermouth, where long, zippy lefts and shorter rights peel back into the river flow. Everything breaks over sand, so there are no coral heads lurking below.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south to west, with a south swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and stays reliably consistent. When north-quadrant winds are blowing, A-frames fire up and down the length of the beachbreaks, but the rivermouth is where the real action is.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind. The break works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Strong southeast winds are the main thing that shuts it down.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet. The locals are friendly, but keep your wits about you: strong rips and currents, murky water, and sharks all come with the territory here.
