Overview
Southbroom is a very good right-hand reef that breaks over a rock ledge and sand, producing mainly sand-bottomed rights.
When It Works
It draws swell from east through south, with southeast (SE) the best match, and it wants strong swells to get going. The spot is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is moderate, so the better sessions come together when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from southwest to northwest. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Southbroom suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a busy lineup when it works. Paddle out by jumping in from the rocks. For an alternative close by, Trafalgar just to the south serves up beachbreaks and fast, hollow right-handers in south swells.
Access
Getting in is easy, with a car park offering free parking, plus restrooms and camping.
