Sunabe Seawall Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Sunabe Seawall is the main surfing arena on this coast, a cluster of half a dozen reefbreaks working over live coral. The lineup spreads across named peaks, from Typhoon Break's long lefts and Hotels' sectiony rights to 5-Rocks' short peaks, California's, and Hawaiian's, so there are both lefts and rights on offer. When a big typhoon swell sweeps around the corner from the southwest, the outside reefs come to life too.

When It Works

The reefs pull in swell from southwest to north (SW-N), but northwest (NW) is the direction worth waiting for. Once the swell picks up from that ideal angle, many of these waves turn into hard-breaking barrels. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and with only moderate consistency you may need to time your windows rather than count on it every day.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. All of these breaks want a pushing tide, so aim for mid to high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an intermediate-level setup, and the standard in the water is usually high, so beginners will struggle here. Expect a very busy lineup when it works, with crowds at their heaviest on weekends. Mind the hazards as well: shallow rocks, live coral, urchins, and strong rips running through the channels. If it feels too packed, there are more options to the south of the marina.

Access

Restrooms are on hand, and parking is flexible, with a car park offering free parking alongside paid and roadside options.
