Overview
Tajiguas is a beach break of shifting peaks spread along a short stretch of sand just north of Refugio, easy to spot from Highway 101. It breaks over a mix of boulders and sand and offers both lefts and rights. There's no standout peak, and it hasn't been especially good in recent years, but it gets surfed regularly and usually serves up some kind of rideable wave.
When It Works
Tajiguas draws swell from southwest through north, with a west (W) swell the best match, and it works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Spring is the prime season, and the break relies on peaky windswells, so it can be somewhat inconsistent. When those windswells line up, count on a rideable wave rather than anything with a defined shape.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north (N) offshore wind. The break needs a medium-low tide, working through low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable, beginner-friendly wave. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
Park in the dirt on the ocean side of the road, where parking is free and roadside, then take one of the two trails down to the beach. Note that the water can be polluted after rainfall.
