Tarfaya is a frontier town on Cape Juby, sitting in the wind shadow of Fuerteventura, which blocks out most northwest swell. The small beachbreak by the Casama fort is usually flat in town, and when waves do show they break over a mix of uneven reef and sand, peeling both left and right.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from southwest through north, with north swell the best match, and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. This is a very windy stretch of coast, so when the town beach goes flat it pays to check the north-facing shore instead. Those shipwreck-strewn northern beaches pick up northeast wind swells.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. The break can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
