Tennis Courts is the main break in the middle of a reef that also holds spots like Big Lefts, Big Rights, and Concession. It's a fun, hot-dogging righthander that can start a little slow for the longboard crew before racing and barreling through the inside double-up section.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southeast through south to west, with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and overhead S-to-W swell is when the rights really turn on. A southeast swell brings the short, shouldering lefts to life, though they're no competition for the rights. Breaking over live coral, it's moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Tennis Courts suits intermediate surfers. Crowds are thick in all conditions, so less experienced surfers are better off waiting for smaller days.
Access
Park in the Ala Moana Park area, where you'll find a car park alongside metered and roadside spaces, all paid. Facilities include restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop. Paddle out from the tennis courts and keep to the right of the three rocks, where a deeper channel crosses the sharp, shallow reef.
