Overview
The Ranch is a reef setup with lefts and rights peeling on either side of a headland, plus a rivermouth bar that can hold serious size. It stayed under the radar for years, largely because there's no accommodation in El Capire, but these days surfers based in the nearby resorts regularly drive or boat up to surf it. The lefts are the real draw, often bigger than the surrounding breaks and running as stretched-out walls with punchy lip-bashing sections.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and the rivermouth can hold up to double overhead when it's firing. Consistency is a strong point, and the lefts in particular keep going when nearby spots fall quiet. On a NW swell you'll see more rights off the peak, and the rivermouth bar might line up too, but it's the lefts that keep shortboarders coming back.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean it up. It breaks across low, mid, and high tide, so you can surf it through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. The lefts hold their shape right through the tide.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and there can be a bit of vibe at the outside peak. It's a long, sectiony wave, though, so sitting inside can be just as rewarding as scrapping for the top spot.
Access
Parking is free and roadside.
