The Reef is the best wave in the area, a left and right that breaks over an uneven reef. When it lines up it throws genuinely hollow sections, and it often stays uncrowded. Keep in mind the reef is covered in urchins, so mind your feet and your wipeouts.
When It Works
The Reef draws swell from southwest through west, with west (W) swell the best match. The hollow sections show up on SW-W swells. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there is a decent working window before it gets too small or too big to hold shape.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, with lefts and rights on offer over the reef. The lineup tends to stay quiet, so you can often score it without much company, just respect the urchin-covered bottom.
