Overview
Thicklip is a bowly left-hander that breaks over uneven reef right beside the rock groyne on Strand Street. It's a shape-driven reef wave with a defined bowl, and it holds up fairly consistently.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west, with southwest (SW) the best match. A moderate swell is what brings it to life, and it's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Being a fairly consistent spot, there are regular windows worth watching.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to keep the wall clean, as this one blows out easily. It comes in on mid and high tide, and a rising tide is the better call as the water pushes in.

This is a wave for experts. The bowl over uneven reef rewards surfers who are confident and know how to read the takeoff.
