Tracks Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Tracks is a long reef with a sandy inside in Kahe Beach Park, breaking over dead coral close to the shore. It throws both lefts and rights: the lefts show up on south to southwest swells, while punchy rights fire on north to northwest swells. The main peak sits down near the power plant, producing electric rights and longer lefts, and a handful of lesser peaks stretch north toward Nanakuli. With everything breaking so close in, it is also a great spot to watch the action.

When It Works

The reef pulls in swell from south to north (S-N), with southwest (SW) the best direction. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is very consistent, so there is nearly always something on offer. Booming winter north swells tend to arrive groomed and smaller here, as they wrap around Kaena Point and concentrate their size and power up at Makaha.

Wind and Tide

Tracks is pretty much offshore year-round, with northeast (NE) the offshore wind direction. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.

Local Tips

The consistent, close-to-shore waves make Tracks a solid option for beginners. Expect a busy lineup when it is on, and keep in mind that the main peak by the power plant is worked by a dominant pack of locals who have it wired.

Access

There is a car park with free parking right above the beach, along with restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on hand.
