Overview
Vasto has several peaks that break beside the town's harbour over a sandy bottom. The waves peel right, and the mellow, forgiving nature of the setup makes it a good option for beginners looking for clean water and space to learn.
When It Works
The peaks pick up swell from north through northeast (N-NE), and a northeast (NE) swell is the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Don't count on it being on all the time, though: this is a very inconsistent spot that needs the right setup to come together.
Wind and Tide
Clean conditions are everything here, so look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind; any onshore quickly flattens things out. The peaks can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The gentle peaks are well suited to beginners, and you can expect an uncrowded lineup with clean water when it's breaking.
