Overview
Wombarra is a right-hand reef break that peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It only comes to life once sand has filled the holes in the reef, which doesn't happen often. When it does, the rights can spin off for a good 200 metres and the tubes are excellent.
When It Works
Wombarra draws swell from east through south, with southeast swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. The break is somewhat inconsistent, so it takes the right pairing of sand and swell to switch on.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave. Sketchy bits of reef are a real hazard, so it's not a spot to take lightly. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works.
