Beach breaks are the most common setup nationwide, backed by points and a scattering of reefs, so sand bottoms dominate with boulders and rock ledges mixed in. Winds from the south and southwest tend to groom the coast, and tides are forgiving, with spots working through low, mid, and high water. Most waves start to break from around 2 ft and top out near head high, though a few spots hold more size.
