Overview
Airport Lefts sits right beside the airport 50 km east of Fuzhou, where A-frames peel over a mix of uneven reef and sand along a sandy beach. The standout is the run of lefthanders that break off the rocky point in front of the small harbour, though the beach hands you both lefts and rights. Expect brown water pushing down from the rivermouth to the north.
When It Works
The break pulls in swell from north through east, and a northeast swell is the best match. It really comes alive on the northeast and east winter swells and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is moderate, so it won't fire every day, but there are worthwhile windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind. The point also throws some shelter from east and northeast winds onto the lefthanders, which helps when the wind swings that way. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. The lineup stays fairly quiet, with just a small group of locals having surfed the point so far.
