El Callado is a reef break that peels both left and right over a boulder bottom, throwing up a rolling peak that can wall up for a long way. It's a solid intermediate spot that stays fairly hazard-free, and it sits among a cluster of other breaks: El Roquete is just across the channel, and there are a few bodyboard waves on the far side of the port.
When It Works
The peak draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northeast (NE) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is good year round, so there's usually something to ride whenever you turn up.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind. The reef breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect the occasional crowd when it's on.
Access
You'll find the break at Playa del Arenal, with free roadside parking nearby.
