El Confital is a right-hand reef break widely rated as one of the best righthanders in Europe, known for its wedging barrels and fast walls. It sits in one of the most beautiful natural settings on Gran Canaria, near Las Palmas, a landscape now under pressure from urban development. The quality here is no secret: it has served as a venue for the WQS circuit.
When It Works
The wave peels right over an uneven reef. It draws swell from the west through north (W-N), with northwest (NW) the direction that lights it up best. Expect it to work from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so it wants a solid pulse of swell before the walls and barrels really come to life.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The reef breaks through mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable on a reef. There is still some localism in the lineup, though it is not as heavy as it was in years past.
