Overview
Kai's Place is a rocky left-hand reef break out near Sitka, sitting under the shadow of Mt Edgecumbe, a snow-covered extinct volcano. It's one of the more west-facing setups in the area, peeling left over an uneven reef.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through west, with southwest (SW) the best direction. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and rates as moderately consistent, so you'll find worthwhile windows when swell size and tide height line up.
Wind and Tide
This one really needs an east wind, so look for east (E) offshore conditions. It can break across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Kai's Place is an expert-level wave, and the lineup stays quiet when it's working.
