Llandudno (Cape Penninsula) Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Llandudno is a popular summer beach break on the Cape Peninsula, breaking over a mix of uneven reef and sand and well sheltered from southeast gales. Depending on how the sand is stacking against the rocks, it can serve up as many as three peaks. The north-end Gat section peaks up and throws spitting right-hand tubes, boosted by the regular backwash, while the middle peak and the southern corner left tend to be short, sucky rides that often close out.

When It Works

The break pulls in swell from southeast through south to west (SE-S-W), with southwest (SW) the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and won't handle much more size than that. You'll find both lefts and rights here, and conditions are moderately consistent. When it's maxing out, a 20-minute walk south to Sandy Bay can turn up heavier, more thumping barrels.

Wind and Tide

Look for an east (E) offshore wind, though it can feel chilly once the offshore is up. The spot works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

Llandudno suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a busy lineup whenever it's on.
