Loberia is a southwest-facing reef break in the Galapagos that can turn on epic barrels on its day. The A-frame peak runs thick and fast over a shallow, spiky lava reef and breaks both left and right. It isn't always barreling, with plenty of smaller, high-performance days, and the left point opposite the right is a fun, playful wall.
When It Works
The peak draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south (S) the best match, and which way it breaks depends on the kind of south groundswell hitting the reef. Northwest swell can wrap in, but it won't line up as cleanly as a good southwest. Loberia is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and is moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave. The shallow lava reef and a few nasty rocks sticking up out of the lineup leave little margin for error, and aggressive male sea lions will bite surfers who get too close to the females and pups, especially during mating season. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works.
Access
It's a 10-minute cab ride from town, with a car park and free parking.
