Los Caños is a classic left-hand reef that breaks over a rock ledge. The steep, barreling take-off wraps into long, playful walls, but the take-off zone is tight, so holding your spot takes some effort. In bigger swells the bay can close out, which makes it harder to stay in position on the left. It's far from the only wave here, though, and when conditions line up there are plenty more breaking close by.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with west (W) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft: solid swells bring out the steep take-off and those long wrapping walls, while the biggest days can shut the bay down. Winter is a beautiful time here, with regular swells filling in.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable slotting into a tight peak. Expect a busy lineup and some vibes at the top of the point when it's on. Watch out for urchins and submerged objects around the reef.
Access
There's a car park with free parking. To find the left, look for the old 60s-style holiday apartments, the wave breaks almost directly in front of them. Keep in mind it's just one of several waves in the bay, so if the peak is crowded or out of form, it's worth checking what else is breaking nearby.
