Overview
Mossies is a mellow reef peak that peels both left and right over an uneven reef. It takes its name from the farmer who first spotted surfers riding here.
When It Works
The peak draws swell from southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with a north swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast offshore wind. The reef works at low and mid tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is a forgiving, beginner-friendly peak, so leave competitive attitudes at home.
Access
Reaching the lineup means a long paddle from the beach, so most surfers head out from Garywilliam Point instead. There's free roadside parking to leave the car.
