Namwon is a left-hand reef that breaks over a rock ledge. It sits on a quiet stretch of coast that rarely sees surf, so tracking down a wave here takes some patience.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southeast to south (SE-S) and lines up best on a southeast (SE) swell. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it tends to be somewhat inconsistent, so it pays to catch it on the right window.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind. The reef breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet. Further east there's a left slab that only comes to life on special conditions, needing a southeast swell paired with a northwest wind.
