Nansha Beach is a sand-bottom beach break on Zhujia Island that throws up several fun peaks, and it is well known locally for its sand castle competition. The water is clean, and the setup suits surfers looking for an easygoing beach session.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from east through south (E-S), with southeast (SE) the best match. Typhoons sitting south or east of the archipelago are another reliable source of surf. Peaks break both left and right over sand, and the beach is moderately consistent, so you will find better and quieter spells rather than surf every day. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. The beach works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup stays fairly quiet even when it is working, so there is plenty of room to find your own peak.
Access
The beach is private, so ask the hotels for access. Zhujia Island is reachable through Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport, which handles national flights only, or by ferry from Beilun near Ningbo. The surf clusters around the village of Nansha.
