Overview
Oriñon is a hollow left-hander that peels off the western end of the bay and breaks into the river mouth over sand. It sits in a quiet, picturesque setting and rarely draws a crowd.
When It Works
The wave draws swell from northwest to north (NW-N), with a north swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and really comes alive in big, stormy conditions. Through the winter you can expect moderately consistent surf.
Wind and Tide
This is a low-tide wave: low tide is the optimal window, with a rising tide generally the better call. Look for a west offshore wind, though it also holds up fine when strong west or northwest winds are blowing.
Local Tips
The left suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup is rarely busy. Be ready for strong rips, and factor in a fairly long walk to reach the break.
Access
Parking is easy and free, with roadside spaces close by. There are some beach facilities including showers, and camping nearby.
