Patos is a good-quality reefbreak near the city of Vigo, peeling both left and right over an uneven reef. Rides are fairly short, but the wave throws up some barrel sections when it lines up.
When It Works
Patos draws swell from the west through north, with northwest (NW) the best match. It takes a large northwest swell to get going, and works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Below that it stays too small, and it maxes out toward the top of that range.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south (S) offshore wind, though a southwest wind is also workable when it's blowing. The reef comes to life on mid to high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a wave for experts. Expect a crowded lineup when it's on, along with a degree of localism.
Access
Free parking sits close by, with restrooms, showers, and a surf shop on hand. Be aware of some residential and stormwater pollution in the water.
