Overview
Pui O is the original surfing spot on Lantau, a sand-bottom beach break that still pulls a crowd and hosts a QS summer surf camp. It's an inconsistent break by nature, so treat it as a spot to catch on the right day rather than a reliable go-to.
When It Works
Pui O draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW–SE), with southwest swell the best match. The sandy peaks break both left and right and are usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. Consistency is low, so it pays to time your paddle-out for when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean up the faces. The beach can work through low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Pui O is a friendly spot for beginners, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working. Surf outside the shark nets.

The break is a short taxi ride from the Mui Wo ferry.
