Soesokak is a rivermouth beach break, where the outflow sculpts the sandbars that give the waves their shape. It sits beside a river better known for canoe trips out to the rock formations upstream, so the setting is a draw in its own right. This is a wave for experienced surfers.
When It Works
Soesokak really comes alive on a typhoon swell, and when one lands the rivermouth banks can serve up good peaks breaking both left and right over sand. It draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south (S) the best match. The bank is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Waves can be inconsistent here, so it pays to wait for the right swell rather than count on surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to groom the faces. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is expert terrain, best suited to surfers comfortable reading a shifting rivermouth. The lineup stays fairly quiet, and there's a rumoured pointbreak nearby if you feel like exploring the area.
Access
Parking is free and roadside, so it's easy to pull up close to the break.
