Tan-Tan Plage is a left-hand reef break, and a good one, sitting on a stretch of coast where the Hamada Stone desert runs to the north and high cliffs overlook the sea to the south. It's also known as El Ouatia, and it lies about 25km from Tan-Tan village. The peak breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from a wide arc, anywhere from southwest through to north, but it lines up best on a northwest (NW) swell. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there's a useful window between too small and too big to aim for.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean up the wall. The break works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is one for intermediate surfers, so it's a solid step-up left once you're comfortable reading a reef.
Access
Getting here is straightforward compared to the rest of the region, since this is the only surf around reachable by a 2WD road. Keep in mind it sits roughly 25km from Tan-Tan village.
