Overview
The Wedge sits in the southern corner of the long beach that runs down toward Cape Town Harbour and the container terminal. Swell refracts around the numerous breakwalls here and wedges into a sucky A-frame, throwing a short barrel over a mix of uneven reef and sand. The rideable wall peels left.
When It Works
It draws swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW), with northwest (NW) the best match. The wave is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it stays moderately consistent, so decent windows show up fairly regularly.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to groom it clean. The reef breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave, and the lineup gets busy when it's firing. Local bodyboarders are keen on the spot and can be protective, so take your time reading the pecking order before paddling out. It's also worth knowing that pollution drifts through from the harbour and the rivermouth.
